SOMA I.T.

SOMA I.T. is an transdisciplinary research and development project of the department of Information Technology (ITEC&NES, soma.lakeside-labs.com) and the department of Intervention Research and Cultural Sustainability (http://www.uni-klu.ac.at/iff/ikn). It is part of our project SOMA - Self Organizing Multimedia Architecture. Especially, it is based on the methodology of intervention.
The project SOMA aims to capture the whole life-cycle of multimedia content in a single architecture for large distributed multimedia information systems. In SOMA we focus on scenarios where events, which we understand as ?limited time periods of special importance?, are a central concept. Examples for such scenarios are sports events stretching over time, where start, finish or critical parts of a race are possible events, or traffic monitoring, where events like traffic jams or accidents have to be reported and investigated.

The interdisciplinary project has the following tasks:

  • Developing and organizing a SOMA-application as part of the 40th anniversary of the Klagenfurt University (SOMA Use-Case II): Establishment of an interactive platform for information and discussion on the history and future of Klagenfurt University
  • Developing transdisciplinary cooperation: Setting up a focus group with potential professional users of SOMA (e.g. enterprises and organisations from the fields of traffic, health, tourism, event management or journalism)
  • Participating observation and reflection of the development process and the implementation

SOMA I.T. arise out of the initiative SO I.T. (Self organization inter- and transdisciplinary). It is designed as a preliminary project for further inter- and transdisciplinary activity in selected areas of application.
