Project 6G-SKY concludes with excellent review

Lakeside Labs is proud to announce the successful completion of the project 6G for Connected Sky. It has been awarded the highest possible grade “excellent” at the final CELTIC-NEXT EUREKA review on June 26, 2025 at Airbus, Ottobrunn. This recognition reflects the project’s exceptional ambition, technical quality, and strong impact potential for future 6G-enabled airspace connectivity.

As leader of the work package “Integration and Demonstration,” Lakeside Labs played an important role in bringing the project’s vision to life. They coordinated and delivered the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial network components and led the end-to-end demonstrations that showcased the feasibility of reliable, intelligent connectivity for connected and autonomous aerial systems.

During the final review, the partners presented live demonstrations and integrated scenarios, including:

  • Ultra-reliable multipath drone connectivity combining LEO satellite, terrestrial base stations, and wireless mesh networks (with contributions from Lakeside Labs)
  • Drone swarms enabling goods mobility through air-to-air and air-to-ground communications (led by Lakeside Labs)
  • Drone sense-and-avoid using joint communication and sensing (with contributions from Lakeside Labs)
  • Lab emulations benchmarking terrestrial and non-terrestrial links (with contributions from Lakeside Labs)
  • High Altitude Platform Station connectivity with LEO backhaul and advanced air-to-ground links
  • Large-scale antenna arrays and lab-based benchmarking of terrestrial and non-terrestrial performance
  • Explainable AI-based handover management for highly reliable drone communications

These demonstrations highlight the strength of the integrated 6G-SKY architecture and the maturity of the technologies developed across the consortium.

Lakeside Labs sincerely thanks all consortium partners from Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Sweden, including Airbus (project lead), and KTH Royal Institute of Technology (scientific lead), for the excellent collaboration and shared commitment to innovation. This achievement demonstrates how close integration between research and industry can accelerate the path toward a connected sky and future 6G systems. We look forward to building on these results in upcoming projects.
